Our ‘Why’

We create professional theatre and train the next generation of theatre artists, so that our community can enjoy a shared experience of masterful storytelling.

The Lexington Theatre Company was created to pay it forward.

Founders Lyndy and Jeromy Smith were both small-town kids with big Broadway dreams. Those dreams came true thanks to solid training, supportive mentors and opportunities to hone their craft. Here at The Lex, we are committed to passing the craft and helping the next generation of big dreamers find their way.

Our productions pair talented young artists with seasoned industry professionals. Confidence is built. Mastery is experienced. Our audiences delight in high-calibre professional theatre while watching the stars of today and tomorrow shine onstage together.

We are committed to education. Additional classes and workshops are provided to our cast members, interns and apprentices during rehearsal periods. Our newly established Artist Development Program offers opportunities for intensive study with experts in the craft, year-round.

We're here to make a difference. Theatre skills are life skills, and storytelling is essential to our lives. We are working hard to create opportunities for as many people as possible to experience the magic of musical theatre. Through scholarships, free programs, school visits and free passes to partner non-profits, our aim is to share what we do and reach as many as we can.

Our unique logo takes on the form of the proscenium arch, representing the theatrical "fourth wall."

Its triple layer represents the depth of our work and the many people whose lives have been touched by it. Each arch represents an aspect of our work — Productions, Education and Outreach. Rather than a wall, it has become a bridge — between professionals and young artists, between actors and audience, between Broadway and the Bluegrass.
